Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist CRNA’s or Certified Nurse Anesthetist administers anesthesia before or during major procedures such as surgeries. Based on the BLS survey in May 2017, CRNAs earn between $110,520- $194,990. A typical day of a CRNA involves administering various types of anesthesia in different routes such as IV or spinal. They explain the procedure to the patient or family, implement the plan for anesthesia and help in developing the care plan for the patient. They also monitor vital signs and possible complications from the anesthesia. There are several steps to become a CRNA and will take a lot of years of practice and education. Without these, a CRNA may face a lot of challenges, like complications or life-threatening situations. An example is an epidural route of anesthesia, if one does not have the accurate skills and experience, A CRNA may accidentally hit the spine causing problems to the brain and spinal cord. The first step to becoming a CRNA is to get a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and pass the NCLEX exam. After this, you have to work as an RN for at least a year to gain experience in a hospital setting, either in the intensive care unit or medical-surgical unit. Next step is getting a Masters or Doctorate degree in Nursing Anesthesia. After getting the degree, one can apply to take the National Certification, pass it and get the license. The skills needed for the job include a good understanding of medications, be a critical thinker, must possess excellent interpersonal skills and have a good atten tion to detail. But the most important skill is to be comfortable working with needles. Having all the skills and experiences mentioned above can make a procedure pain free and may also save a patient’s life. To me, that’s the biggest reward. Nurse Practitioner FNPs or Family Nurse Practitioners are RNs with degrees in specialization for treatment of patients in any stage of life. They focus on promoting healthy living and prevention of diseases. Based on the BLS survey in May 2017, FNPs earn $74,840 to $145, 630. An FNP can work in a variety of settings like hospitals, clinics, or physician’s office. A typical day of an FNP involves assessing, diagnosing and treating patients. The steps to becoming an FNP are similar to becoming a CRNA. First is to get a Bachelor’s in Nursing degree, pass the NCLEX and obtain a license. One must gain at least a year of experience as an RN, after which you can enroll in FNP Master’s degree program. Upon successful completion, apply for certification and pass the FNP board certification exams. Skills desired include good attention to detail, must possess strong communication skills and must be a critical thinker with good reasoning skills. One challenge an FNP can face is working with different physicians, who may have different styles of practice. An FNP should be able to accommodate supervising physicians. In recent years it seems that early exposure to crime is increasing the number of crimes committed by minors. This type of crime is mostly known as juvenile delinquency. Juvenile delinquency is defined as young adults, people under eighteen, braking or violating the law (Websters). Family structure can affect juvenile delinquency in numerous ways. Family structure can include family support system, home environment, and family unity. The independent variable is family structure and the dependent variable is juvenile delinquency. Home environment plays a role in the production of juvenile delinquency. Kierkus and Hewitt (2009) in The Contextual Nature of the Family Structure/Delinquency relationship discussed how family structure is an important factor in delinquency but there might also be other factors that influence this type of behavior. We are taught at a very young age the importance of words. One simple word can get you what you want. While others express intense emotion that can easily be understood. As we grow, we combine words allowing us to communicate with others. Through communication, spoken or written, we tell our stories. I believe that everyone has a story. Granted, some are more exciting than others, but it is still a story that can be shared. All of the authors we were introduced to shared a part of themselves. They told us about a child dealing with his parents looming divorce, and a young lady contemplating abortion. They told us stories about life, about love, and about loss. The poets reviewed used poetry to express portions of their lives. They described their situations, thoughts, and feelings during these pivotal times. This resulted in a wide range of poetry themes. Some themes were tragic with gruesome detail, while others were inspirational. I was surprised to learn that so many poems were born out of tragedy. Although, these were the poems I least preferred, I have respect for the level of emotional intensity they were able to portray with such few words. What kind of poem could you make of that? This question could preface every poem ever written. However, this question is a variation from the poem I found to be the most intellectually stimulating. The â€Å"Johannesburg Mines†, a prose written in 1925 by Langston Hughes. It was written to bring attention to developments that were occurring in South America. Hughes took a different approach in his writing by directly addressing the reader. This poem may not necessarily express his everyday life, or does it? This enactment of fantasies also led him to a different world in which he could see himself transform into a figure that that was very beautiful and graceful. Janaki’s room, which is under the territory called â€Å"the girls† located in back portion of the house plays a pivotal role in Arjie’s fantasy world. It is this room that enabled him to explore his transformation into a personality he fanaticises. It is Janaki’s room that this transformation painstakingly takes place of a young boy into a bride that he aspires to be e. . â€Å"and my ultimate moment of joy, was when I put on the clothes of the bride† (Selvadurai 4). This transformation into a bride subconsciously serves two purposes, one of which was to emulate his Amma who was his inspiration as stated â€Å"†¦. for even though I adored the goddess of the local cinema, Amma was the final statement in female beauty for me. † (Selvadurai 15) He observes his Amma getting dressed fo r special occasions with extreme focus and enthusiasm, consuming each detail of the ritual. Through enacting the central character of bride-bride, he is able to emulate those steps. Secondly this transformation provided him with the ability to be what he really wants to be which is not restricted by his physical being as stated by the author, â€Å"I was able to leave the constraints of myself and ascend into another, more brilliant, more beautiful self, a self to whom this day was dedicated, around whom the world, represented by my cousins putting flowers in my hair, draping the palu, seemed to revolve. (Selvadurai 4-5) Apart from his feminine side, Arjie, like the male dominant society he was living in, has a hunger for control and leadership, it is in back garden and Janaki’s room where his huger for leadership, attention seeking tactics are used and put to test, time and time again. It is evident he likes to be a leader to achieve the role which will ultimately let him to fulfill his fantasies, e. g. â€Å"The reward of my leadership was that I always got to pl ay the main part in the fantasy† (Selvadurai 4). As influential as he was, Arjie is also the attention seeker. This is prominent after losing the power struggle with Tanuja, when he is given the most insignificant role of the groom and was asked to pretend to be at an office. Not giving up on his idea of being central character, he devises a clever methodology and starts a new game of office-office where is assigning different office task to female cousins, proving yet again that he is the leader and central character around which everyone should revolve as they did earlier in all of the other fantasy plays. Janaki’s room has a very important role in Arji’s young life. It led him to a journey where he could find his identity and to search him true gender. A journey which would let him emulate his aspiration and let him ascend into a world that is more brilliant and beautiful.
